5 Things to Do Before Hiring a Life Coach

Have you ever wondered if you were ready to work with a coach? Or what does a coach do anyway? Am I the only one that wasn’t sure of this? You are not alone my friend. There are about 1 billion kinds of coaches out there in the world.

I’m totally exaggerating but there are quite a few and we all have different general and niched practices. I’m a Joy and Success coach - essentially I help really busy women organize their lives so they can prioritize their goals, guilt-free, and with joy. I help my clients reach and relish in all the joys of success in their careers, home, relationships, and health. Most would call me a life coach.

But there a few things that you need to know before you hire me, or any kind of coach out there whether it someone who focuses specifically on nutrition, or reiki healing or finances.

Have a Vision:

We all daydream about living in a bigger house or off the coast somewhere, or maybe our dreams about landing that dream job or "perfect" partner. We dream all the time about the things we want and sometimes without ever having the thought or intention to make that dream a reality. One client told me that she was sick of daydreaming it only made her feel worse about her current position; but when I asked her what she wanted that she had not had the time or energy to go for she had nothing. She only wanted to organize her life.

Great I could certainly help with that but often times when I work with clients the process of organizing your life revolves around your priorities and goals. Without a vision for what you want your life to be there is little purpose driving ; lasting change and joy. For anyone thinking of hiring a coach ( its not cheap) if you allow yourself to dream and big dream or have a big vision, a coach can help you get there. A coach can help you develop that big dream, goal or vision but its always nice to have a few on the deck so you spend

It’s easy to motivate someone to reach their dreams and goals if they have them in the first place but a coach can also work to help you realize the dreams you have always had but maybe have stopped yourself from daydreaming about.

There’s no Secret Pill:

Flat Tummy Tea, Waist trainers, A fancy Journal, a todo app. There are a ton of one-hit wonders out there that claim to solve your problems with this one pill, remedy, app, etc. The truth is while we really want the claims to be true, in the back of our minds we know it’s not; and we’re right.

There is no magic solution that will help you find success overnight in any of the areas that lead to joy or achievement. Before you invest in any kind of coach you must understand that it will take time, practice, and effort to turn your dreams into reality.

Working with a coach will help you get results easier or faster but I challenge you to questions any coach or product that promises results overnight.

A Coach helps you find the answers from within yourself and help you deepen awareness and come to your own consultations

A Mentor walks with you down the path that they took while helping you to avoid the mistakes and pitfalls that they have made along the way

A teacher shows you a specific method or strategy that has worked for themselves and others

An Expert has and continues to research and connect with other experts to be sure they are sharing the most up to date and effective information in their area of expertise.

An accountability partner is the one who will light a fire underneath you to keep those little promises you’ve made to yourself and inspire you to keep it up when you feel the most deterred.

Will you coach be available

Most coaches are only available during your scheduled time together which is great if all you need is that weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly push. If you are the type (myself included) that needs feedback on decisions, methods, and strategies you’ll want to be sure your coach is available to you in between calls. Will you do the work?

There is not one coach out there that can guarantee results, trust me I searched high and low because I wanted to be sure that If I invested my money in anything that it would promise me results. It took me a while to realize that any investment in yourself is exactly what you make it. Consider College.... thousands of people invest in extremely pricy college tuitions to get lackluster grades on coursework and superb grades on partying. Neither the college nor the professor can ensure any results because it’s really out of their control.

So is coaching! A coach can help you get to your goal at the end of the day, the commitment to do the work begins and ends with you!
